From performing at Madison Square Garden’s New York to sleeping rough on the streets, years of chronic alcoholism, followed by attempted suicide and serious injury, John Gaughan, former pop star and member of 1960’s Herman’s Hermits and songwriter for the Drifters, gave a powerful, moving and sometimes very humorous account of his ‘riches to rags’ lifestyle as a member of an internationally famous group touring the world in the swinging sixties, when they were nearly as big in America as the Beatles.
John was speaking at the inaugural dinner of the Bideford Chapter of the Full Gospel Business men’s International at Tantons Hotel in Bideford where a group of 45 guests, including wives, heard how he was rescued from this deep decline by discovering for the first time that “there was a God who loved him and that he could have a personal relationship with Him”.
John also sang some the Hermits’ old hits plus some thought-provoking new songs, penned since he found a lasting faith in God, some of which appear on his new CD “Songs from the Heart”
Bideford’s `FG Business Men’s Fellowship’ President Jim Rhodes and Vice President Joe Buckingham were delighted with the success of the evening and more speakers are booked for the months to come. Although wives and girlfriends are welcome at meetings, a local FGBF/”Women Aglow” group is likely to be formed soon.
We encourage you visit the meetings, (with wives and partners) to hear exciting testimonies about how the speakers lives and businesses were transformed after coming into relationship with Jesus.
