According to a recent survey two-thirds of gas and electricity customers have no idea how much they are paying per unit of energy or how their bill is calculated and this includes many businesses. The way suppliers have over complicated their bills has stopped millions of people from switching supplier.......... Is it any wonder? Please read the following below.
Simple steps to get an accurate gas and electricity quote.
To get a detailed price, have at hand 12 months gas and/or electricity bills, all you need is two bills, 12 months apart so that you can see how many units you have used. Energy suppliers charge different prices for energy depending on which area of the country that you live in. Each electricity and gas supply to each property in the UK has a unique number and in some circumstances more than one. They are unique to the property and do not change if you change supplier. For Electricity, this known as a MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number).
For mains Gas supply it known as a MPRN (Meter Point Reference. These are unique to the property and do not change if you change supplier.
Please make a note of these numbers, they can be found on the electricity and gas bills issued by your supplier. They are sometimes called a Supply Number but it should not be confused by your customer reference number.
Electricity is measured in kwh (kilowatt-hours) whereas some Gas meters measure in cubic meters, if this applies to you this has to be translated into kwh (kilowatt-hours). All gas suppliers use the same calculation. Gas calculation. You may need a calculator. Start with the 12 months number of cubic meter units used. (U). Then multiply this by 1.0264 (known as the conversion factor. Then multiply by 39.2 (known as the calorific value). Finally to convert this into kilowatt-hours divide by 3.6. (U) X 1.0264 X 39.2 X 3.6 = kilowatt-hours used.
If you have an old imperial meter: Take the volume used, shown with the suffix 'hcf' on the front of your bill and multiply this figure by 2.83 to convert to cubic meters (m³). Then follow above. With this information the supplier can work out how much you will save. if you were to switch. Start with your post code.
